UCT School of Architecture – PART-TIME STUDIO TEACHING ASSISTANTS

The School of Architecture, Planning and Geomatics would like to invite members of the architectural profession to apply for part-time Studio Teaching Assistant positions in the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) programme for the 2017 academic year. As a Studio Teaching Assistant, the successful applicant will give assistance to Studio course convenors in the conduct of studio projects. Most contracts will involve 12 hours work per week (Monday, Thursday and Friday mornings from 09h00 to 13h00), plus final reviews, marking and course administration, and will follow the academic calendar, which runs from the the 13 March to 14th July and for the second semester from 14th of August to 30 November 2017 (an example of the undergraduate academic timetable layout is annexed below).

When applying please indicate your preference for one or more of the following course options:
BAS 1 studio: full year contract. 24 teaching weeks + reviews
BAS 2 studio: full year contract. 18 teaching weeks (1st, 2nd and 4th quarter) + reviews
BAS 3 studio: 3rd quarter vertical studio (6 weeks)
BAS 2 studio: full year contract. 18 teaching weeks (1st, 2nd and 4th quarter) + reviews
BAS 3 studio: 3rd quarter vertical studio (6 weeks)

The posts are suited to architects who are either running their own practices or who are employed in architectural firms. Particular consideration will be given to applicants who have demonstrated interest to pursue post-graduate study / work or have research interest or demonstrate capacity and aptitude for design thinking.

Remuneration will be negotiated dependent upon expertise.
